AfCFTA Trade Volume Surpasses $1.2 Trillion Milestone

The African Continental Free Trade Area reaches a historic milestone as intra-African trade volumes continue their unprecedented growth trajectory.

In a landmark achievement for continental economic integration, the African Continental Free Trade Area has recorded total trade volumes exceeding $1.2 trillion for the first time. This milestone, confirmed by the AfCFTA Secretariat in Accra, represents a 340% increase from pre-agreement levels and signals a new era of intra-African commerce.

The surge has been driven by manufacturing growth in Nigeria, Kenya, and South Africa, alongside improved digital trade infrastructure and the harmonization of customs procedures across member states.

"This is not just a number — it represents millions of African businesses gaining access to a market of 1.4 billion consumers," said the AfCFTA Secretary-General during the announcement in Accra.
